Interview Questions

1. In you paintings, like “flag”, “flowered”, you choose printmaking as a medium to paint. Why do you choose printmaking to paint? Does printmaking mean something to you?

2. In most of your projects, you use mirrors as a medium. Do mirrors convey some messages in your projects? (like “Chanel”, “Title”)

3. You mentioned that “ A good art work is work that triggers people’s emotions” (能讓觀眾從自己的角度去觀看、體味、感受的作品，便是最好的創作) Then what kind of emotions that you want to trigger in your artworks?

4. How does your life experience affect your artworks? As you mentioned in an interview that you lived in public housing estate when you were young, does that part of life affect you a lot?

5. In your artworks, people look the same, no gender, no age, do you do it intentionally? If yes, why?

6. Some of your artworks relate to love, what do you think about “love”?

7. Did any painters or artists influence the way you paint?

8. Have you connected your paintings with some social issues? For example “Migrate worker: to work for you”.

Castaly’s works focus on love and memories. She wants to convey a warm and delightful feeling to audiences. From sweet memories, people would find out loves and enjoy their life.

Castaly uses the simplest way to express her feelings–painting. Sometimes, she uses installations as a form to express her feelings in some projects.For example, her project "Mirror as Painting"

She draws on canvas with printmaking, watercolor or acrylic. In some of her projects, she chooses mirrors as a medium.

In Crystaly’s mind, people always blame on their life, they pursue what they do not have, and forget what they have now. To waken people from sorrow and sadness, Crystaly tries to paint and compose warm artworks.

I found Crystaly’s works very adorable. Her paintings are colorful which make me feel refreshing and comfortable. For example, her painting “Buoyantly” applies warm colors which makes the painting looks vintage and reminds me about the bubbles we played while were young.
